People have all kinds of falsely conceived notions about silencers (aka suppressors).
One of the major misconceptions the majority of uneducated people believe a silencer is a device that’ll reduce the staccato of semi-automatic fire to ninja quiet levels. They think a silencer on the end of a gun makes everyone capable of being a James Bond styled assassin who can fire their gun anywhere without detection.
Another misconception people hold is they mistakenly believe they’re illegal all across the United States. Because there are some outstanding regulations on their sale people think they’re not allowed to own them.
Both of these lines of thought are completely incorrect and that’s made it difficult for silencers to gain popular acceptance in the U.S.
However the state of Iowa just wised up and passed a law relaxing they had built up against silencers, making the tide shift towards almost full acceptance nationwide.
