On Sunday JFK airport was evacuated after reports of an active shooting in the terminal alerted authorities to the presence of a shooter.
As patrons of the airport calmly existed, hands held high, it was later revealed there was no active shooting.
There wasn’t a gun either. In fact, the reason people freaked out was because people were clapping loudly as they celebrated the victory of Usain Bolt as he clinched his 3rd Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter dash.
Two people reported hearing what they thought were shots fired, law enforcement sources said. Police went floor to floor to clear the airport and ensure there was nothing to be found, a source said. Surveillance video from inside the terminal did not show any shooting.
