If you go to any reputable gun store or anyplace that sells firearms and decide to purchase a gun, you will be forced to fill out a Federal Form 4473.
Forty-five years ago, I worked in the sporting goods department of a large retail store and sold a number of rifles and shotguns and helped customers fill out the 4473 forms. In those days, they filled out the form, which we then put in a notebook and once the customer paid for their gun, they carried out the door
Today, the 4473 form is used to generate a background check with the FBI, but the actual sale of the gun has to wait until the store hears back with an approval from the FBI or if the store has not heard back from the FBI after 72-hours, and then the sale can move forward.
That delay is whatpost was originally published on this site
